|
common fibular nerve, a nerve originating from the sciatic nerve that gives origin to two cutaneous branches, the sural communicating nerve, which contributes to the innervation of the skin over the lower posterolateral side of the leg, and the lateral sural cutaneous nerve, which innervates the skin over the upper lateral leg. It then continues around the neck of the fibula and enters the lateral compartment, where it divides into the superficial fibular nerve and the deep fibular nerve. The superficial fibular nerve innervates the fibularis longus and brevis and some of the dorsal areas of the foot and toes. The deep fibular nerve innervates the anterior compartment of the leg.
