The majority of studies of the biology of chewing lice have focused on species that parasitise domesticated birds and thus are of economic importance to poultry producers, such as parasites of Gallus gallus (Linnaeus, 1758): Menacanthus stramineus (Nitzsch, 1818), Lipeurus caponis (Linnaeus, 1758) and Goniocotes gallinae (De Geer, 1778); and parasites of Columba livia (Gmelin, 1789): Columbicola columbae (Linnaeus, 1758) and Colpocephalum turbinatum (Denny, 1842).
Gross examination showed severe infestation with Colpocephalum trispinum and Ardeicola melanopis lice, moderate emaciation, pale musculature, bursal atrophy, and severe hemorrhagic enteritis due to a heavy proventricular and intestinal infection with Porrocaecum heteropterum nematodes.
Colpocephalum turbinatum, Degeeriella regalis, Kurodaia fulfofasciata and Laemobothrion maximum are registered in B.
Colpocephalum, Kurodaia and Strigiphilus are the genera of chewing lice from Strigiformes (Price & Beer 1963, Morishita et al.
Two species of feather lice were found: Colpocephalum pectinatum occurred on three of the owls, and Strigiphilus speotyti was found on four owls.
Four Colpocephalum pectinatum (Order: Phthiraptera, Suborder: Amblycera, Family: Menoponidae) were collected from three owls, and four Strigiphilus speotyti (Order: Phthiraptera, Suborder: Ischnocera, Family: Philopteridae) were found on three owls.
