Colocasia
a genus of toxic plants in family Araceae. May cause cyanide poisoning, also oral irritation on ingestion because of presence of oxalate-rich raphide crystals. Includes C. esculenta (C. antiquorum). Called also taro, elephant ears.

A major problem verified by these studies and observed by the public has been the increase in exotic river vegetation, particularly Hydrilla verticillata (hydrilla), Potamogeton illinoiesnsis (pondweed) and Colacasia escuelenta (elephant ear) (Lemke 1989; Staton 1992; Angerstein & Lemke 1994).
