| Sexual life is therefore a reality among spinally-injured men and women, and sensations of pleasure and orgasm should be investigated more often, as our studies suggest that sexual rehabilitation with biofeedback combined with cognitive restructuring may be an interesting avenue in sex therapy for spinally-injured patients. The program includes education about common emotional experiences in pregnancy, perinatal mental illnesses such as depression and anxiety, relaxation, problem solving, communication skills, and techniques such as cognitive restructuring. The subsequent chapter introduces the concepts of catastrophic thinking, locus of control, and cognitive restructuring in a manner that should help program facilitators present these concepts to a group, along with suggestions for modifying maladaptive thought patterns and attitudes. |
