Etymology: Gk, kokkyx, cuckoo's beak
one of two muscles in the pelvic diaphragm. Stretching across the pelvic cavity like a hammock, it is a triangular sheet of muscle and tendinous fibers. It acts to draw the coccyx ventrally, helping to support the pelvic floor. Compare levator ani.

coccygeus muscle
forms part of the pelvic diaphragm; important in the cause and surgical repair of perineal hernia in dogs.
