octacosanol

a dietary supplement. Also called 1-octacosanol.
uses It is used for herpes, inflammation of the skin, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and physical endurance. It is probably not effective for ALS, and there are insufficient reliable data for other indications.
contraindications Octacosanol should not be used during pregnancy and lactation or in children.

A straight-chain, aliphatic 28-carbon fatty alcohol found in wheat germ and epicuticular waxes of plants—e.g., Eucalyptus species, forage and cereal grasses (e.g., Acacia, Trifolium, Pisum and other legume genera).
