[klus′terin]
a multifunctional glycoprotein with roles in the metabolism and transport of lipids and membrane fragments, secretion of hormones, reproductive biology, inhibition of assembly of the membrane attack complex of complement activation, programmed cell death, and modulation of intercell interactions. Its expression is enhanced in tissue injury and remodeling, and in degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease.
