Moroccan Jamel Chatbi had to withdraw from the 3,000 metres steeplechase final after testing positive for the stimulant clenbuterol.
All Ward's Ascot runners were drug tested and the results proved negative but, while his record of drug-related suspensions and fines in the US provokes questions over the BHA's reaction to prolonged clenbuterol use in other jurisdictions, Dr Tim Morris, director of equine science and welfare, insists there should be no rush to judgement.
An 'A' sample from Chatbi taken on August 15 tested positive for clenbuterol, according to a statement from the Moroccan federation.
