Christian Science, a religious system founded in 1879 by Mary Baker Eddy Etymology: 1821-1910 based on the metaphysical teachings of Phineas P. Quimby. It holds that healing should be achieved through spiritual means, that sickness and death are illusions resulting from a false sense of separation from God. Christian Science, n a Christian denomination that teaches that the healing powers of Christ are available to all because the divine mind is the source of all health. Disease is illusory and is based upon wrong perceptions of divine mind. A radical reliance on this mind instead of on medicine is what is needed to heal in cases of illness.
