n naturally occurring substance in the body responsible for elasticity of cartilage. Derived from animal cartilage and taken as a dietary supplement. Chemical name: chondroitin sulfate, chondroitin sulfuric acid, chonsurid; part used: bovine tracheal cartilage; uses: antithrombotic, extravasation agent, arthritis, ischemic heart disease, hyperlipidemia; precautions: pregnancy, lactation, children, patients with bleeding or kidney failure; can cause headaches, agitation, euphoria, nausea, bleeding. Also called
