cholangiocarcinoma /cho·lan·gi·o·car·ci·no·ma/ (ko-lan″je-o-kahr″sĭ-no´mah)
1. an adenocarcinoma arising from the epithelium of the intrahepatic bile ducts and composed of epithelial cells in tubules or acini with fibrous stroma.
cholangiocarcinoma [kōlan′jē·ōkär′sinō′mə] a cancer of the biliary epithelium. Risk factors include ulcerative colitis and infestation of liver flukes. Diagnosis is based on histologic evaluation, and the prognosis is poor. cholangiocarcinoma [ko-lan″je-o-kahr″sĭ-no´mah] 1. an adenocarcinoma arising from the epithelium of the intrahepatic bile ducts, composed of eosinophilic cuboidal or columnar epithelial cells, with abundant fibrous stroma; mucus may be secreted but not bile.
