chlorophyllin /chlo·ro·phyl·lin/ (klor´o-fil-in) any of the water-soluble salts from chlorophyll; used topically and orally for deodorizing skin lesions and orally for deodorizing the urine and feces in colostomy, ileostomy, and incontinence; used particularly in the form of the copper complex. chlorophyllin (klôr´ n any one of a number of products result-ing from the reaction of certain decomposition products of chlorophyll with copper and other metallic ions. Bailey's work with chlorophyllin has already attracted interest around the world. Indeed, when chlorophyllin supplementation followed HCA exposure, it significantly increased the number of "aberrant crypts"--precancerous changes in the colon. Trials in China where chlorophyllin is available inexpensively over the counter suggested that the strategy is promising and comprises an approach that is public health efficacious, across the population, and cost effective for reducing liver cancers in exposed populations. |
