any disease or infection caused by members of the family Chlamydiaceae; takes many forms including: psittacosis and ornithosis in birds, placentopathy manifested by abortion in enzootic abortion of ewes, sporadic bovine encephalomyelitis, pneumonitis in all species except pig, conjunctivitis in sheep, cats and laboratory rodents, polyarthritis in sheep, cattle, horse, enteritis in cattle and lagomorphs, and septicemia in epizootic chlamydiosis in lagomorphs.
