[por′sə·lən] 1 a white, translucent, dense ceramic material produced by fusing under high temperature a mixture of feldspar, kaolin, quartz, whiting, and other substances. 2 See dental porcelain. porcelain (pôr´s n a material formed by the fusion of feldspar, silica, and other minor ingredients. Most dental porcelains are glasses and are used in the manufacture of artificial teeth, facings, jackets, and occasionally denture bases and inlays. porcelain, baked, n See porcelain, dental. porcelain, dental, n (baked porcelain, fired porcelain), a fused mixture that is glasslike and more or less transparent.
