pectus /pec·tus/ (pek´tus) pl. pec´tora [L.] thorax. pectus carina´tum pigeon breast or chest; a condition of the chest in which the sternum is prominent, due to obstruction of infantile respiration or to rickets. pectus excava´tum funnel breast or chest; a congenital deformity in which the sternum is depressed.
Pectus excavatum An abnormality of the chest in which the sternum (breastbone) sinks inward; sometimes called "funnel chest." Mentioned in: Marfan Syndrome pectus excavatum. See funnel chest. pectus [L.] breast, chest, thorax. pectus carinatum a congential deformity in which the sternum is angled caudoventrally and protrudes; less common than pectus excavatum (below). Called also pigeon breast. pectus excavatum a congenital deformity in which the sternum and caudal ribs are concave, reducing the thoracic cavity space.
