Cheyne-Stokes breathing Internal medicine A form of recurrent apnea seen in Pts with neurologic and heart disease, characterized by regular volleys of apnea followed by regular 'crescendo-decrescendo' fluctuations in respiratory
rate and tidal volume, punctuated by periodic apnea, hypo- or hyperventilation; CSB is triggered by ↑ arterial PCO2, sedatives, opiates; it is more common during sleep and at high altitudes, and seen in comas 2º to a severe
