Cervical dysplasia
Dysplasia is the abnormal growth of the epithelial cells. This is what a Pap smear will detect in the cervix.

To assess knowledge of Pap testing, we developed a questionnaire that was based on a cervical dysplasia instrument developed for adolescents (9) and augmented with questions reflecting knowledge areas identified by participants in the qualitative phase of this investigation.
Pre-clinical studies have shown that Matritech's NMP179 can identify both low- and high-grade cervical dysplasia, by detecting the nuclear matrix protein that is produced by cervical carcinomas.
Infection with certain types of HPV can lead to genital warts and cervical dysplasia, which in a small proportion of women may lead to cervical cancer.
