| In an attempt to discover how the polishing was done, Lu obtained four ceremonial burial axes from the tombs of two Neolithic Chinese societies--the Liangzhu culture and the Sanxingcun culture--that once inhabited parts of southern China near what is now Shanghai. Deedes, Waugh's contemporary and brief partner in the Abyssinian adventure, returned to the country, now called Ethiopia, in 2000, for the ceremonial burial of the Emperor Halle Selasse, upon whom, at least in part, Waugh's Emperor Seth seems to be based. The Elks and the Scouts held the fourth annual Community Flag Retirement Ceremony in which worn-out and tattered flags are given a ceremonial burial by fire. |
