A genus of the family Cercopithecidae, represented by guenons and common African monkeys.

Attempts to amplify an SIV in a wild black mangabey in our study were unsuccesful, and more studies are needed to clarify whether the initial SIVbkm infection is caused by contamination from a red-tailed monkey in captivity or in the wild because black mangabeys share habitats with Cercopithecus species.
