centrifugal force,

an inertial force in a rotating system, directed outward from the axis of rotation and inversely proportional to the distance from the axis of rotation. The force is the product of the mass of an object and its radial acceleration; thus in centrifugation the heavier components of a mixture are separated from the other components by being thrown to the periphery of the orbit.
