a means of reducing the mucocutaneous cleft of the vulva to prevent the aspiration of air and thus reduce the amount of infection and inflammation in the urogenital tract. The simplest version of the operation is the suturing together of the lips of the vulva, after removal of a narrow strip of mucosa, over most of their length.
