ACAN

A gene on chromosome 15q26.1 that encodes an aggrecan/versican proteoglycan, which is an integral part of the extracellular matrix in cartilage, where it provides compressive resistance.

ACAN mutations occur in skeletal dysplasia and spinal degeneration.
