carbon dioxide therapy,
the therapeutic inhalation of a low concentration of carbon dioxide gas. Such therapy may be used to dilate the blood vessels, stimulate the cardiovascular brain centers and central nervous system, overcome hyperventilation, assist in developing a productive cough needed to remove mucous secretions, and control hiccups.
