carbamide /car·ba·mide/ (kahr´bah-mīd) urea. carbamide peroxide a compound of urea and hydrogen peroxide used as a cerumen-softening agent, dental cleanser, bleaching agent, and antiinflammatory. carbamide peroxide [kär′bəmīd] a topical antiinfective. indications It is prescribed to treat canker sores and other minor inflammatory conditions of the gums and mouth and to soften impacted earwax. contraindication Perforated eardrum prohibits its use. adverse effect The most serious adverse reaction is local irritation. carbamide urea in anhydrous, lyophilized, sterile powder form; injected intravenously in dextrose or invert sugar solution to induce an osmotic diuresis in the treatment of cerebral edema and glaucoma.
