Some doctors believe that placing the implant beneath the chest muscle instead of under the breast will decrease the risk of acquiring a condition known as Capsular Contracture which is hardening of tissue surrounding the implant.
Asymmetry (dissimilarity in size or shape between breasts); contour irregularities which persist or get worse following the operation requiring additional surgery to rectify them; capsular contracture - connective scar tissue that is responsible for keeping the implant in place can sometimes thicken and contract causing shape changes, hardening, or pain in addition to deflation or rupture.
A fair proportion of women experience capsular contracture, when the pocket around the implant hardens, creating rock-like breasts.
