calcium channel, a slow voltage-gated channel very permeable to calcium ions and slightly permeable to sodium ions, existing in three subtypes designated L, M, and N and located throughout the body. In excitable cells the action potential results from the transmembrane fluxes of Na+, Ca2, and K+. Calcium channels are the main cause of action potentials in certain smooth muscles, and the N channels regulate neurotransmitter release. Also called calcium-sodium channel. For 40 million hypertensive patients, we are determined to continue supplying information about Diovan and Atelec, our calcium channel blocking agent, quickly and extensively to medical professionals. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for a fixed dose combination of two antihypertensives, the calcium channel blocker (CCB) amlodipine besylate (currently marketed by Pfizer as Norvasc) and the angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) olmesartan medoxomil, or Benicar. Based on previous research, the researchers hypothesized that 17[beta]-estradiol and the EDCs would bind to nonclassical estrogen receptors on the membrane of glucagon-producing [alpha]-cells and activate a sequence of secondary messengers within the cell, leading to control of the transmembrane calcium channel and related calcium oscillations. |
