CAMKK1

A gene on chromosome 17p13.2 that encodes a calcium/calmodulin-dependent serine/threonine protein kinase, which mediates many of calcium’s second messenger effects. CAMKK1 is part of a putative calcium-triggered signalling cascade involved in various cellular processes: it phosphorylates CAMK1, CAMK1D, CAMK1G and CAMK4; promotes cell survival by phosphorylating AKT1/PKB, which inhibits pro-apoptotic BAD/Bcl2-antagonist of apoptosis; and regulates apoptosis.
