CUL5

A gene on chromosome 11q22.3 that encodes cullin-5, a core protein of multiple SCF-like ECS (Elongin-Cullin 2/5-SOCS-box protein) E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase complexes, which mediate ubiquitination and subsequent proteasomal degradation of targeted proteins. Cullin-5 may contribute to catalysis by positioning the substrate and the ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme. ECS (SOCS1) may direct ubiquitination of JAK2 and be involved poteosomal degradation of p53/TP53 stimulated by adenovirus E1B-55-kDa protein.
