CDX2A gene on chromosome 13q12.3 that encodes a homeodomain protein that binds an A/T-rich sequence in the insulin promoter and stimulates its transcription. CDX regulates the transcription of multiple genes expressed in the intestinal epithelium, both during early differentiation and as part of the maintenance of the intestinal epithelial lining of the small and large intestines.
A gut protein used clinically in immunocytochemistry to identify adenocarcinomas of the colon and other tissues and tumors of intestinal origin.
