CD8 cell, CD8+ cell,
a major classification of T lymphocytes, referring to those that carry the CD8 antigen; the major subtypes are the cytotoxic T lymphocytes and the suppressor cells. Also called CD8 T lymphocytes.

CD8 cell,
a T lymphocyte that secretes large amounts of gamma-interferon, a lymphokine involved in the body's defense against viruses. CD8 cells prevent the unnecessary formation of antibodies. Also called cytotoxic T cell. See also CD4.

The PP CD8+ cell numbers were significantly lower in the fat (-)-PN than in the chow group, whereas the FO- and SO-PN groups did not show significant reductions compared with the chow group.
However, we found that no CD8+ cell colocalized with IL-4 (or IL-5) in the smokers with CB or CB + AO (12), thus leaving unresolved the question of the cellular origin of these two regulatory cytokines.
This association of phenotype and function is not absolute, since CD4+ cells may exhibit lytic activity, while CD8+ cells secrete antiviral cytokines, notably interferon-[gamma] (IFN-[gamma]) and tumor necrosis factor.
