MRC2

A gene on chromosome 17q23.2 that encodes a C-type lectin domain protein which may play a role as a lectin receptor by internalising glycosylated ligands from the extracellular space for release in an endosomal compartment via clathrin-mediated endocytosis. Mannose receptor C-type 2 may play roles in plasminogen activation by controlling the extracellular level of PLAUR/PLAU; in cellular uptake and remodelling, and in degradation of extracellular collagen matrices; in cancer and chronic tissue-destructive diseases acting on collagen turnover; and may participate in extracellular matrix remodelling in concert with matrix metalloproteinases.
