a type I transmembrane protein found on monocytes, macrophages, granulocytes, some B cells, dendritic cells, and natural killer cells that facilitates cell adhesion, phagocytosis, and/or chemotaxis; expressed in some B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemias, most acute nonlymphocytic leukemias, and some hairy cell leukemias.

A gene on chromosome 16p11.2 that encodes the integrin alpha M chain, which combines with the beta-2 chain (ITGB2) to form a leukocyte-specific integrin, macrophage receptor 1 (Mac-1), or inactivated C3b receptor 3 (CR3).
