phenylbutazone /phen·yl·bu·ta·zone/ (-bu´tah-zōn) a nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug used in the short-term treatment of severe rheumatoid disorders unresponsive to less toxic agents.
phenylbutazone [fen″il-bu´tah-zōn] a nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug administered orally in the short-term treatment of severe rheumatoid disorders unresponsive to less toxic agents. It is given for periods of less than one week because it can cause aplastic anemia and agranulocytosis.
phenylbutazone a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug resembling cortisone in its action; used in the treatment of painful conditions of joints and skeletal muscles. It has powerful analgesic and antipyretic effects, but causes bone marrow suppression with high doses or prolonged administration.
