Administered sublingually or by intramuscular or IV injection. indications It is administered parenterally for the relief of moderate to severe pain and is used in tablet form to treat opioid dependence. contraindication This Schedule V controlled substance is contraindicated for patients who may be opioid dependent. adverse effects Among the reported adverse effects are respiratory depression, sedation, nausea, dizziness, vertigo, headache, vomiting, miosis, diaphoresis, and hypotension. buprenorphine an analgesic and opiate antagonist.
