bundle branch /bun·dle branch/ (branch) see under branch. bundle branch Etymology: Dan, bondel + Fr, branche a segment of the network of specialized conducting fibers that transmits electrical impulses within the ventricles of the heart. Bundle branches are a continuation of the atrioventricular (AV) bundle, which extends from the upper part of the intraventricular septum. The AV bundle divides into a left and a right branch, each going to its respective ventricle by passing down the septum and beneath the endocardium. Within the ventricles the bundle branches subdivide and terminate in the Purkinje fibers. branch 1. ramus; a division or offshoot from a main stem, especially of blood vessels, nerves or lymphatics. 2. the bearing surface of the horseshoe that supports the wall of the hoof. There is a lateral and a medial branch. bundle branch a branch of the bundle of His. communicating gray branch postganglionic nerve fibers coursing between the sympathetic ganglia and the spinal nerves; destined for skin glands, blood vessels and the like; join spinal and cranial nerves. communicating white branch preganglionic fibers of the sympathetic system originate in the lateral columns of the spinal cord and pass to the spinal nerves and then, via the communicating white fibers, to the ganglia of the sympathetic trunk. bundle a collection of fibers or strands, as of muscle fibers, or a fasciculus or band of nerve fibers. accessory bundle of Kent bundle of His. atrioventricular bundle bundle of His. Bachmann bundle a large muscle bundle between the right and left atria, thought to serve as a specialized conduction pathway. bundle branch see bundle branch. fundamental bundle that part of the white matter of the spinal cord bordering the gray matter and containing fibers that travel for a distance of only a few segments of the cord. Called also ground bundle. bundle of His a band of atypical cardiac muscle connecting the atria with the ventricles of the heart; called also atrioventricular bundle. His bundle degeneration associated with sudden unexpected death or periods of viciousness; most common in Doberman and German shepherd dogs. His bundle stenosis inherited in Pug dogs; associated with syncope and sudden death. Keith's bundle a bundle of fibers in the wall of the atrium of the heart between the venae cavae. medial forebrain bundle a group of nerve fibers connecting the midbrain tegmentum and elements of the limbic system. sinoatrial bundle Keith's bundle. Thorel's bundle a bundle of muscle fibers in the human heart connecting the sinoatrial and atrioventricular nodes. uncinate bundle the sharply bent bundle that connects the frontal lobe of the brain with the temporal and occipital lobes. bundle of Vicq d'Azyr a band of fibers from the mamillary body to the anterior nucleus of the thalamus. Did the patient have a left ventricular bundle branch block and was a biventricular pacemaker considered? At my last physical examination and EKG my doctor told me that I have an incomplete right bundle branch block and a mild sinus arrhythmia. consisting of specialized conducting tissue, they reasoned that the right bundle branch would be critical to maintaining the tachycardia, and they destroyed it. |
