pododermatitis

pododermatitis
inflammation of that portion of the skin which continues downward within the horny structure of the hoof. Most common use is with reference to cattle where it is used synonymously with footrot, but also used increasingly to describe dermatitis or pyoderma of the feet in dogs.

pododermatitis circumscripta
bruising and necrosis of the sole in the angle between the bar and the wall of the hoof in horses. See also corn (2).

plasma cell pododermatitis

suppurative pododermatitis
underrun sole with pus formation.
ulcerative pododermatitis
a disease of rabbits, guinea pigs and other caged small mammals, caused by pressure from a cage floor on the backs of the metatarsal bones; it may progress to arthritis. Staphylococcus aureus is most commonly recovered. Called also sore hocks in rabbits, and bumblefoot in guinea pigs.
