The conflict is resolved as Fernando is able to find the documents that accredit him as owner of the horse, and literally saves Bucefalo as he was about to enter the bull ring.
Just as Antonio Ricci in Bicycle Thieves (Vittorio de Sica 1948) roams the streets of Rome in frantic search of his stolen bicycle, Fernando traverses the streets of Madrid, first to find a place to keep the horse; then, after the horse is stolen by an unscrupulous bullfight promoter, he also launches a frenetic search for Bucefalo.
In his quest for the horse, Fernando involuntarily masquerades himself as a member of the upper class, and just like in the "Telefoni bianchi" comedies, in which the main object appropriated, the horse in this case, serves the hero to impress the female lead of the film, in El ultimo caballo, it is through Bucefalo that Fernando gets to meet and impress Isabel (Conchita Montes), the female protagonist of this film.
