Brueghel Syndrome A rare condition characterised by involuntary forceful spasms of the facial, tongue, and neck muscles. It has been linked to organic disease—cavum septi pellucidi—and Verga's ventricle and regarded as a rare complication of neuroleptic—e.g., phenothiazine and butyrophenone—therapy. It is more common in later adult life, especially in women and may be accompanied by forceful opening of the jaw, oromandibular dystonia, lip retraction, blepharospasm, hemifacial spasm, spasm of the platysma, and protrusion of the tongue.
