bromocriptine /bro·mo·crip·tine/ (bro″mo-krip´tēn) an ergot alkaloid dopamine agonist, used as the mesylate salt to suppress prolactin secretion and thereby treat prolactinomas and endocrine disorders secondary to hyperprolactinemia; also used as an antidyskinetic in parkinsonism and a growth hormone suppressant in acromegaly.
Bromocriptine Also known as Parlodel, the main drug used to treat galactorrhea by reducing levels of the hormone prolactin. Mentioned in: Galactorrhea, Lactation bromocriptine a dopamine agonist; as a derivative of ergot alkaloids it is a luteolytic and arbortifacient which suppresses prolactin secretion and lowers plasma ACTH levels.
