Borg (perceived exertion) scale

a simple method of rating perceived exertion used by coaches to gauge an athlete's level of intensity in training and competition. The commonest used is a 15-point scale, using the numbers 6-20 to describe a range of levels of exertion from very, very light (6) to exhaustion (20). Research has shown that there is a correlation between an athlete's rate of perceived exertion (RPE) and their heart rate, lactate threshold and O2. Named after Swedish scientist Gunnar Borg.
