Boophilus /Bo·oph·i·lus/ (bo-of´ĭ-lus) a genus of hard-bodied ticks that are vectors of babesiosis, including B. annula´tus, the vector of Babesia bigemina; B. mi´croplus, the vector of Babesia bovis; and B. calcara´tus, the vector of Babesia major.
Boophilus
a genus of ticks in the family Ixodidae.

Boophilus annulatus
a one-host tick which transmits Babesia bigemina. Called also North American tick.
Boophilus calcaratus
a tick that transmits Anaplasma marginale, Babesia bigemina and B. berbera.
Boophilus decoloratus
a one-host tick that transmits Anaplasma marginale, Babesia bigemina, B. ovis, B. trautmanni and Borrelia theileri.
Boophilus microplus
a one-host tick that transmits Anaplasma marginale, Babesia bovis, B. bigemina and Coxiella burnetti.
