denoting a physician who has completed the certification requirements established by a medical specialty board and has been certified as a specialist in a particular field of medicine.

adjective Referring to designation indicating that a US or Canadian physician who has (1) completed 4 to 8 years of post-medical school residency training—i.e., a physician who is ‘board-eligible’—and (2) passed an examination, commonly called the ‘Boards’, that tests theoretical and practical knowledge in an area of specialisation

board certified,
adj the status of a dental specialist such as an orthodontist who has become a board diplomate by successfully completing the certification program of the recognized certification board in that area of practice.
