Blue Flag
A perennial herb, the dried rhizome of which contains alkaloids, salicylates, starch, and tannins; it is antiemetic and carminative, and has been used for eructation, headache, cramps, rheumatic complaints, to increase the flow of bile, and is said to remove toxins from the blood

Some native plants that love to have wet feet are buttonbush, pickerel weed, blue flag iris, lizard's tail, jewelweed, mist flower, Joe Pye weed, turtlehead, pitcher plant, and swamp rose mallow.
For color in a shady water garden, plant yellow flag iris (Iris pseudacorus) and blue flag iris (Iris versicolor).
