blood smear,
a blood test used to provide information concerning drugs and diseases that affect the morphology of red and white blood cells and to help diagnose certain congenital and acquired diseases. A properly performed and analyzed blood smear is the most informative of all hematologic tests, allowing examination of erythrocytes, platelets, and leukocytes.
