Etymology: OFr, bloc + AS, ūt
in dentistry, elimination in a cast of undesirable undercut areas by filling them in with a suitable material; this includes all areas that would offer interference to placement of the denture framework and those not crossed by a rigid part of the denture. A blockout creates a common path of insertion.
