black haw,
an herb found in the Eastern United States.
uses This herb is used for dysmenorrhea, menstrual cramps and pain, menopausal metrorrhagia, hysteria, asthma, and heart palpitations. It is also used to lower blood pressure. It is possibly effective at relieving uterine spasms, but effectiveness in other instances has not been verified.
contraindication Black haw should be used with caution in people with kidney stones since it contains oxalic acid.

n Latin names:
Viburnum prunifolium, Viburnum opulus; parts used: root bark; uses: diuretic, antispasmodic, sedative, relaxes uterine muscles, dysmenorrhea, cardiovascular diseases; precautions: patients with kidney stones, those taking anticoagulant medications. Also called
American sloe, cramp bark, guelder-rose, may rose, nannyberry, sheepberry, shonny, silver bells, sloe, stagbush, or
sweet haw.
