a voltage produced by a tissue of the body, particularly muscle tissue during a contraction. Electrocardiography depends on measurement of changing potentials in contracting heart muscle. Electromyography and electroencephalography function similarly in the diagnosis of neuromuscular and brain disorders, respectively.
