A drug produced by means of biotechnology, consisting of a large, complex molecule such as a protein rather than a small molecule.

A generic term for a biomolecule (e.g., proteins), including antibodies and nucleic acids and antisense oligonucleotides, which are produced in a transgenic organism—e.g., mice, livestock, fish, or plant—and used as a therapeutic agent.
