biofuel

Any gas, liquid or solid that can be converted from a raw biological material—vegetation, algae grown in sewage, dry waste, cane sugar or wood pulp through combustion or fermentation to alcohols into fuels useful for industry and transport.

Major biofuels
(1) Biogas generated by anaerobic digestion (“biomethanation”).
(2) Fuel ethanol generated by a yeast-based fermentation of molasses, sugarcane juice or hydrolysed seed.

biofuel

fuel derived from a biological source. Biofuels include ETHANOL (gasohol), METHANE (biogas), fish liver oil and rapeseed oil (biodiesel).

There are many papers on thermal analysis of fossil fuels (coal, lignite, oil shale), biomass fuels, and blends of coal/lignite and biomass fuels; however, no published works were available when we started to study co-firing of biomass and oil shale.

Biomass fuel sources - like fuels garnered from agricultural and orchard waste, landfill biomass decomposition, wastewater treatment, animal manure and urban wood waste - may be acceptable as renewable biomass fuel sources.

The biomass fuel can be used in traditional coal-fired plants as either a co-mixed fuel with coal or, because of its very high BTU rating, independently without changing the infrastructure of the plant.
Project Summary : This project will focus on two parts: 1) promotion of a novel direct biomass fuel cell technology, the success of which will lead dramatic development in the fuel cell field, and 2) an international forum to boost the fuel cell industry.
Large-scale biomass is a contentious subject and the biggest worry for many people is that it is often impossible to fuel a large power station without importing biomass fuel from around the world.
