metoprolol /met·o·pro·lol/ (met″ah-pro´lol) a cardioselective β used in the form of the succinate and tartrate salts in the treatment of hypertension, chronic angina pectoris, and myocardial infarction.
metoprolol [mĕ-to´pro-lol]
a cardioselective beta-adrenergic blocking agent having a greater effect on β1-adrenergic receptors of the heart than on the β2-adrenergic receptors of the bronchi and blood vessels; the tartrate and succinate salts are used in the treatment of hypertension, angina pectoris, and myocardial infarction; administered orally or intravenously.
